Without further ado, I thought I would share a quick Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) post, about a residential building that I saw in the city of Milan. It had a very clever design to stop intruders from getting into the complex.

Here is the outside from a few different angles:

What I’m really keen to draw your attention to is the very clever fencing. The fencing is very thin, strong, can’t be bent. It is see through, and the palings are close together so you can’t squeeze through.

If you look at the next photo, you can also see that there are two of these fences prior to even getting into the complex. You can’t jump the fence, and if you get through the entrance gate by following someone, you then have to get through a second round of fencing. Also note that you can see through everything – the grass is neatly cut, showing ownership.

The complex fencing was definitely the cleverest I have seen so far in action, particularly with the double fence – which was very strong.
